What
happens when plain water is tested for toxicity using EPA's official methods?
In a recent blind study, nearly 40% of such samples were erroneously reported
to be toxic. A summary of the WET Method Blank Study, along with an interesting
professional critique of the research design and conclusions, are available
here.
The study was accepted for publication in SETAC's peer-reviewed journal Environmental
Toxicology & Chemistry. The article appears in the Jan./Feb. of 2000 issue. |
